The Opportunity at Harvard 

Christian Union wants to see the spiritual and moral climate at the university radically changed, for the benefit of Harvard individuals, society, and the world.

By 2020, Christian Union's goals for Harvard's 56,000 students, staff, and faculty are that:

• 100% will know a Christian on campus.
• 100% will receive multiple opportunities each year to hear the Gospel.
• 20% (10,800) will be involved in a Christian ministry.

It is an ambitious vision, but it must be achieved!

What Will It Take?

The most critical need in reaching Harvard for Jesus Christ is providing a sufficient number of capable, long-term ministry workers.

Harvard University will spend $3 billion this year for 35,000 faculty and staff to educate its 20,000 students.

By comparison, the Christian ministries at Harvard are incredibly understaffed, with only 20 workers to minister to the same 20,000 students.

Fortunately, it will not take thousands of ministry workers to reach Harvard, but it will take at least 50 more.  By 2020, Christian Union plans to raise the funds to hire the needed workers to offer the hope of Christ to all of Harvard.

As a first step in fully equipping Harvard, we plan to place a ministry team at Harvard College and Harvard Business School in the fall of 2008. 

The key ministry programs will include:

• Evangelism:  One-on-one meetings, outreach dinners, advertisements sharing Christ.
• Discipleship:  Weekly Bible Courses, personal discipleship, ministry training.
• Service:  Social action projects, mission trips, character development.
• Christian Friendship:  Weekly large group meetings, social events, retreats.

Expansion to the other graduate schools, staff, and faculty will occur in subsequent campaigns
