Headquarters Staff

Matt Bennett Matt Bennett is Founder and President of the Christian Union.  He grew up in Houston, Texas and earned B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Cornell University.  After working for Campus Crusade for Christ at Princeton University for 12 years and developing the ministry into one of the largest in the history of the Ivy League, he resigned to study at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for a Masters of Divinity.  In 2002, with fellow Ivy League alumni, he founded the Christian Union with the mission to change the world by bringing sweeping spiritual transformation to the Ivy League Universities.
Don Chambers Don Chambers is the Vice President of Operations for Christian Union.  He graduated from Wheaton College and spent eight years working for non-profits such as World Relief and Trans World Radio.  He transferred to the corporate world in 1995, working in management and development, most recently serving as an independent consultant to small, privately held companies in general management, organizational design, and business development. He joined the Christian Union team in 2008.
Jim Jenks

Jim Jenks serves as the Event Manager of Christian Union. He grew up in Wisconsin, attended Moody Bible Institute, and graduated with a degree in Evangelism in 1986. Jim has been in the event industry for 22 years, serving 20 years at Moody and then almost 2 years with Leading The Way in Atlanta, GA.  Jim and his wife Betsy live in the Atlanta area with their son Steven, a high school student.  They have an older son, Brent, who is a junior at Purdue University.

  David Johnson joined Christian Union in 2008 and serves as the Database Administrator.  He grew up in Southeastern Pennsylvania and attended The Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a degree in Marketing.  Upon graduation David served with Campus Crusade for Christ for four years, working in their fundraising development office in the major donor area and finally as the Director of Development Services.  Subsequently, David earned a Masters degree in Business Administration from Eastern University.  He has worked in the technology sector for EDS in quality assurance and as a marketing manager for Covad Communications.  David and his wife Jennifer live in the Philadelphia area with their three elementary school age sons.
 

Pam Traeger came to work at Christian Union in March 2006, and is responsible for administering the Christian Union Partnership Grant Program.  Born and raised in England, Pam moved to the United States with her young family in 1973.  She has a varied professional background, which includes the catering industry, Office Manager at a London charity and overseeing her family-owned insurance agency.  When not working at Christian Union, Pam can be found either creating lampshades for 'luxury custom lampshades,' a business she founded and has successfully run for over 15 years, or working in her garden.  Pam has three grown children (Rebecca, Katharine and Sebastian) and three small grandsons (Parker, Dillon and Alex)

  Helene Ulrich serves as the Office Manager for Christian Union. She grew up in Edison, New Jersey. She taught high school for ten years and then went to work for A.T.&T. in a variety of capacities, including Programmer, Systems Analyst, Project Manager, and Quality Manager. After twenty years in the telecommunications industry, she joined Christian Union in June 2003. She has 2 daughters, Elaina and Anne.


City Christian Unions Staff

Carol Fausnaught Bio3 Carol Fausnaught serves as the Vice President of City Christian Unions. She grew up in Indiana, attended Princeton University, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History in 1994. Carol worked as an intern with Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) at Princeton University from 1994-1996 under Matt Bennett.  From 1996 - 2006 Carol worked for the business consulting divisions of PriceWaterhouse, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and IBM.  Carol left IBM in the fall of 2006 to join Christian Union.  Carol lives with her husband, Todd (Princeton '94), and their three children in Williamsport, PA.
  Patty Scheibeler provides crucial administrative support to the Christian Union team. She graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and has worked in a variety of secretarial and managerial jobs while fulfilling her primary responsibility of raising her three children.  Patty, her husband Eric, and their children Adam, Rachel, and Hannah live in Williamsport, PA.
 Kimberly Schoelen Bio Kimberly Ho Schoelen serves as the Director of Public Affairs for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. She grew up in Oklahoma and in 1981 received a Bachelor’s degree in Politics from Princeton University where she remains active in alumni leadership. In the 25 years following graduation, Kimberly pursued a career focusing on marketing programs, communications and events. She worked for organizations in industries ranging from Fortune 100 manufacturing and professional services, to fast-growing venture-backed software development. In 2001, after the birth of her son, Kimberly renewed her faith in Christ. She teaches elementary-age children at her Metropolitan-DC area church. Kimberly and her husband Larry are parents of two children; one who is a 2009 college graduate and one in elementary school.
 George Taylor Bio

George Taylor serves as the Director of Public Affairs for the Northeastern United States.  He graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in Psychology in 1968, and with a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School in 1971.  An ordained minister (Conservative Congregational Christian Conference), he served in pastoral ministry for 25 years before starting his "second career" operating a used and rare book store on Cape Cod.  He lives with his wife Vi in Marion, MA and has 3 grown children and two grandchildren.  George is excited about being part of the Christian Union team and looks forward to seeing revival in the Ivy League.

 Dustin Valerius Bio

Dustin Valerius serves as the Director of Public Affairs in Florida as well as the Central and Western regions of the U.S. He was raised in Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1998 and Baylor University in 2000, with a B.S. in Political Science and a Master’s of Public Policy and Administration. Dustin is passionate about the nonprofit sector and began working for and studying the sector in college. His experience working on criminal justice research and fundraising at Prison Fellowship solidified his desire to help nonprofits as a career. After graduate school he moved to Washington D.C. to work as a policy analyst dealing with family, culture, and education issues. He spent six years as the Director of Development for a Christian retreat center in Central Texas before moving to Dallas with his wife Erin and two daughters Brynn and Alex Rae.

 

Chris Wright serves as Database and Administrative Support for City Christian Unions.  She grew up in Oklahoma and attended Purdue University from 1985 to 1990, where she received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Management.  Chris joined Procter & Gamble in 1990 and worked for twelve years as an IT professional.  In 2002 she left Procter & Gamble to stay at home with her children; she joined Christian Union in March of 2007.   Chris lives with her husband, Mike, and her two daughters in Williamsport, PA.

Harvard University Ministry Staff

Don Weiss Don Weiss is the Ministry Director at Harvard. He grew up in Iowa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa in 1984. Don served on staff for seven years with Campus Crusade for Christ: four years at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and then three years as the Campus Director at Cornell. In 1993 Don moved to Boston to pursue a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and after completion was ordained at Park Street Church, Boston. From 1996-2000 Don ministered as a civilian chaplain at The U.S. Military Academy. Following West Point, he served as a pastor at College Church in Northampton, MA. Don lives with his wife, Sally Anne, and their two sons in Cambridge. They are thrilled to be serving with Christian Union in their favorite city.
 Nick Nowalk

Nick Nowalk serves as a Ministry Fellow at Harvard University.  Nick is from the NJ/NY area and became a Christian during his freshman year at High Point University through the influence of a student-led Campus Crusade group.  After graduating with a B.A. in English Writing and a minor in Religion/Philosophy, Nick moved to the Twin Cities and attended Bethel Seminary for three years, working towards his Master of Divinity degree while also serving as a youth pastor and as staff at Minnesota Teen Challenge.  He next spent two years as a pastoral apprentice at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis under John Piper in The Bethlehem Institute (TBI), and concurrently taught a number of theology and Bible classes at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Nick studied at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary prior to joining Christian Union in the summer of 2008.  In his free time Nick enjoys reading Jonathan Edwards and talking theology/philosophy, jogging, basketball, and spending time with his lovely wife, Kasey.

 Jane Kim Bio Jane Kim serves as a Ministry Fellow at Harvard University. She was hired by Christian Union in July 2010 to teach and mentor young women involved in Christian Union’s leadership development ministry at Harvard. Jane’s discipleship work with young adults is central to her faith, having served as college staff at Cornerstone Church of Boston to the Wellesley campus, and having led Boston University students to do missions work in Guatemala. On a weekly basis, she has provided Biblical mentorship to college women and young professional women. Jane graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in Religious Studies. She holds a Master of Arts, Mental Health and Marital and Family Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). While pursuing her Master’s degree, Jane was a Psychology Intern and Staff Therapist at a Massachusetts state hospital and mental health center.


Princeton University Ministry Staff

Dan Knapke Dan Knapke, Jr. serves as the Director of Ministry to the undergraduate students at Princeton University. Dan is from Ohio and earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1990. Upon graduation, he joined the Campus Crusade for Christ staff and served at S.U.N.Y., Stony Brook on Long Island, New York. Following that assignment, he worked at Princeton University for six years, helping to expand AIA’s ministry as well as start IMPACT. From 1995-97, Dan served in Bulgaria, where he started a Campus Crusade for Christ ministry at Plovdiv University. In 1998, Dan left Campus Crusade to enter corporate management.  He joined Hershey Foods Corporation, where he was Manager of Promotion Integration—Instant Consumables, overseeing the $1.5 billion instant consumables business. In April 2005, after sensing a call from the Lord to return to campus ministry, he returned to Princeton, with his wife Laurie, to serve with Christian Union.
Lorri Bentch

Lorri Bentch serves as a Ministry Fellow with the undergraduate student ministry at Princeton University.  Lorri was raised on a farm in Pennsylvania and graduated from Princeton University, magna cum laude, in 1991 with a degree in Politics.  She was involved in Campus Crusade for Christ as an undergraduate.  After serving in missions in Mexico and Russia, she moved to Hungary in 1994 with her husband Tim to launch a new ministry among fine-arts professionals in Eastern Europe.  While in Hungary, she earned a Masters of Law in Constitutional Law from Central European University, started a family, and helped plant a church.  The Bentches and their three daughters returned to the United States in 2006, and Lorri joined Christian Union in 2007.

Chuck Hetzler

Chuck Hetzler joined Christian Union in 2008 to serve as its first Teaching Fellow at Princeton.  Chuck earned his PhD in New Testament from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Chuck also completed a ThM at SBTS and was employed as a part-time Instructor of New Testament Interpretation during his time there.  Chuck also holds degrees from Covenant Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Samford University (BS).  In addition to his academic training, Chuck has joyfully served churches in North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky.  He hopes to bring both his passions for biblical scholarship and pastoral ministry to campus ministry at Princeton.  In his free time, Chuck most enjoys the company of his wife, Karen, who has also caught the vision of Christian Union, and their two young children.

Scott Jones

Scott Jones began his role as a Ministry Fellow at Princeton University in August 2008. Scott joined Christian Union after completing both his Master of Divinity (magna cum laude) and Master of Theology (summa cum laude) degrees in four years at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. While at Gordon-Conwell, Scott’s ministry experiences ranged from a full-time hospital chaplaincy program to a homeless outreach ministry in the heart of Boston. Scott received a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.  While at Cornell, an experience leading a Campus Crusade for Christ small group his senior year transformed his life. Scott is married to Sara, a social worker who has most recently done adolescent-focused family therapy. Scott and Sara, both native Long Islanders, are excited and humbled by the opportunity to serve with and minister to such an amazing group of people.

 Laurie Knapke

Laurie Knapke serves as a full-time volunteer with Christian Union at Princeton.  Because of her father’s military career, Laurie grew up in many different places, including Germany, Kansas, and Virginia.  She graduated from George Mason University with a degree in Psychology, obtained a M.A.Ed. from Wake Forest University in Secondary Math Education, and taught high school math for two years.  She has served with Campus Crusade for Christ in eastern Asia and the Middle East.  Since 2005, when she and her husband, Dan, joined Christian Union, she has been leading Bible Courses for undergraduate women at Princeton, offering mentorship and discipleship, and providing hospitality to hundreds of grateful students.

Quincy Watkins

Quincy Watkins serves as a Ministry Fellow with the undergraduate student ministry at Princeton University. He received a B.S. in Economics from Temple University and an M.B.A. in Marketing and Organizational Development from The Wharton School. Quincy brings twelve years of senior-level management experience and 20 years of ministry experience. Quincy joined Christian Union in 2008 to make a strategic impact in the lives of Ivy League students. A native of Chicago, Quincy is happily married to Fay.

Yale University Ministry Staff

 Chris Matthews Bio 3 Chris Matthews serves as the Ministry Director at Yale University. He grew up in Arkansas, the son of a faithful pastor, and earned a B.S.E. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He spent ten years working in the field of aerospace and computer engineering primarily serving in management roles. While working in engineering, Chris remained active in local church ministry, regularly teaching the Scriptures and participating in missions overseas. In 2006, Chris left the engineering field to prepare for full-time ministry and study at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Masters of Divinity in Theology in 2010. Chris is blessed by God's gift of a precious wife, Micah, and three wonderful children.
 Chad Warren Bio Chad Warren serves as a Ministry Fellow at Yale University. Chad grew up in Montana and Colorado. He became a Christian during the summer of his junior year in high school through the influence of his youth pastor. He earned a B.S. in Philosophy from Oregon State University. He interned as a campus minister with Campus Crusade for Christ before serving with Worldview Academy as a Director and Faculty Member. Before joining Christian Union he served as Assistant Pastor at Winter Park Christian Church and as Headmaster and faculty member of Winter Park Christian School where he taught Theology, Apologetics, Formal Logic, Hermeneutics, and Greek for 4 years. He is working to complete a M.A. of Theological Studies from Reformed Theological Seminary. In his free time, Chad most enjoys time with his wife Shanon, son Truett, and daughter Jayne.

 
 Ivy League Christian Observer Staff

  Tom Campisi is Managing Editor of the Ivy League Christian Observer. A veteran of 20 years in the newspaper and publishing industry, Tom began writing as a “stringer” for the Trenton Times while attending The College of New Jersey. After graduation, he worked as the sports editor of the Hopewell Valley News and as a reporter and special section manager at the Star-Ledger, New Jersey’s largest newspaper. In 1994, sensing the call of the Lord, Tom left the Star-Ledger and spent a year in the advertising department at Christian radio station WWDJ before becoming the publisher of the Tri-State Voice, a monthly Christian newspaper that covers Metro New York City.  In the spring of 2007, after writing two different articles concerning the spiritual history of Princeton University, Tom again sensed the Lord’s will, “expanded his tent pegs,” and joined Christian Union. Tom and his wife Christen reside in Oakland, NJ and are the proud parents of two children, Victoria and Matthew.
 

Eileen Scott serves as Senior Writer for the Ivy League Christian Observer.  Eileen graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburg, NY with a BA in Public Relations and a minor in media studies.  Before joining Christian Union in 2007 she was Communications Director for Truth Christian Media in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Eileen also has worked as a freelance writer and communications consultant, but considers being a mom to her two children to be her most significant work experience.  Since 2006 she has lived in Connecticut with her husband Aaron, her son A.J., and her daughter Anna Kate.
